Samuel Ramani

Dr. Samuel Ramani is an Associate Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), the UK’s leading defense and security think tank. Before joining RUSI in 2021, Samuel completed his DPhil in International Relations and MPhil in Russian and East European Studies at St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford.

Samuel is a regular commentator on international affairs for BBC News, Sky News, Al Jazeera English, CNN and France-24, and his articles have been featured in The Daily Telegraph, The Spectator, Foreign Policy, and the Washington Post. Samuel is also an accomplished public speaker for corporate, NGO and governmental clients, and is represented by Chartwell Speakers Bureau.

In addition to working with a global array of private sector clients, Samuel has advised the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Defense, UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, NATO Headquarters and the French Ministry of Defense on security issues relating to Russia, China, North Korea, Africa, the Middle East, nuclear proliferation, and cybersecurity. Samuel is the author of two recent books on Russian foreign policy which were published by Hurst and Oxford University Press in 2023: “Russia in Africa: Resurgent Great Power or Bellicose Pretender” and “Putin’s War on Ukraine: Russia’s Campaign for Global Counter-Revolution.”

Samuel’s third book “Rudderless Superpower: The United States in Africa” will be published by Hurst/OUP in 2025.
